Background

At the end of 2024, CMSL was asked to support Fort Shopping Park in Birmingham.

Fort Shopping Park is a large out of town retail destination. It has more than 40 retail and food outlets, extensive parking, and high footfall.

The project focused on relocating food stalls across the retail park.

Each pitch had different power needs. Therefore, the new layout needed a safe and flexible electrical solution. It also had to be delivered efficiently, without disrupting day to day trading.

CMSL’s West and electrical team delivered the works, with support from specialist partners where needed.

Actions

• CMSL designed a dedicated electrical supply for the relocated food stall area. This gave the site enough capacity for multiple vendors, while also protecting the existing infrastructure from overload.
• The team installed new power infrastructure and distribution equipment. As a result, each stall had a clear, safe, and reliable connection point.
• CMSL also provided individually metered supplies for each pitch. This gave the client better visibility and control over energy use and future costs.
• Each connection was tailored to suit different power demands. As a result, the client gained more flexibility when changing vendors or adjusting pitch use.
• After the first phase, CMSL returned to site twice to install extra supplies and meters. This helped the client respond to changing site needs without delaying trading or tenant fit outs.

Outcomes

• Enabled the successful relocation of food stalls with no disruption to day to day retail operations
• Improved control and transparency of energy use through individual metering for each pitch
• Delivered a flexible electrical solution that can adapt as vendor requirements change
• Strengthened the client relationship through responsive delivery and continued support after the first installation
