Cambridge one of 1000 companies to inspire Britain

Cambridge Maintenance Services has been named as the only facilities management company to feature on this year’s 1,000 Companies to Inspire Britain list, compiled by the London Stock Exchange Group.

The list highlights 1,000 of the fastest growing SMEs across the UK. Its selection criteria require companies to have shown growing revenue over the past four years and to have outperformed their sector peers. As well as identifying 1,000 companies, the annual report also examines the opportunities and challenges facing SMEs, looking at the sectors and trends that will shape the future of the UK economy.

“Not only is it an honour to have been placed on the 1,000 Companies to Inspire Britain list, but to be the only company in our sector to have been selected is a real accomplishment.” – Colin Wills, Owner and CEO

The report contains successful small companies that have grown both employment and revenue at exceptional organic rates. The 1,000 companies highlighted in the report are growing at an average of 50 percent a year, proving that Cambridge is bucking the trend in its sector by growing rapidly in a difficult economic climate.

Colin Wills: “We were founded on the Cambridge Science Park in 1985 to manage facilities for some of the UK’s most innovative companies, but now innovation lies at the heart of what we do too. No other company in the maintenance sector is as dynamic or forward thinking as ours and this accolade is testament to that fact. We pioneered the use of unmanned aerial vehicles for surveys and our latest advancement, 4D monitoring, records the performance of critical systems, such as air conditioning, over time, so they can be repaired before they break. Our inspiration for innovation comes from the people who work for us – without them our success would not be possible.”

Rt Hon George Osborne, Chancellor of the Exchequer said: “The businesses in the report are a fantastic illustration of the UK’s pioneering spirit and capacity to produce world-class innovation. UK high-growth businesses are leading the charge in rebuilding our economy. These companies are the backbone of the British economy.”
